Our March Madness and Fug Madness Final Results!

On Monday night, the March Madness tournament came to an end.  On Tuesday, we learned the winner of Fug Madness.  And at the end of both of our fundraising contests, we were left with just one winner - Catherine Prince!

I was originally going to do two separate "Congratulations!" posts.  But when Cat took home the double win, it only made sense to do this all at once.  So join me in congratulating Cat on her amazing performance in both pools!  Not only did Cat win both pools, she did it by correctly predicting the ultimate winner in both tournaments.  In the March Madness pool, she was one of only two people to pick Duke and she was the only person in the Fug Madness pool to pick Amber Rose to go all the way.  All told, Cat won $220 for her unmatched performance in both pools.

More importantly, between the two fundraising contests, we were able to raise $220 for our team for the Susan G. Komen 3 Day for the Cure.  Thank you to everyone who entered our contests - we couldn't do it without you!  Moreover, we want to thank everyone that helped promote our contests.  I want to especially mention Kristin Moreland, JT Shoemaker and Robyn Torkewitz who really went above and beyond to help us out.  These types of fundraisers are highly dependent on word of mouth and you have all helped us more than you know!

March Madness

The NCAA Men's Basketball Championship game saw the top seed Duke take on the plucky underdogs from Butler.  It was a close game throughout, with Butler answering every challenge that Duke threw at them.  But in the end, Butler's final shot bounced off the rim and the Duke Blue Devils emerged victorious!

Our March Madness pool featured 34 brackets from 28 players.  With all of the upsets throughout the tournament, our leader board changed after every round.  In the end, it came down to Karen Sager and Catherine Prince to determine our winner.  Cat, who I'm told bleeds Duke Blue, picked her home team and her loyalty paid off as she took home our March Madness pot!

Fug Madness

While many thought Lady Gaga was destined to win the 2010 Fug Madness title in a walk, in the end, she wasn't even in the final match up.  Instead, it was little known but weirdly dressed Amber Rose that knocked off Lady Gaga on her way to the Fug Madness Final where she faced a strong competitor in Rihanna and her crazy clothes.  In the end, though, Rihanna was out-fugged by Kanye's highly unique girlfriend Amber Rose by a 65% - 34% margin.

Our Fug Madness pool featured 10 brackets from 9 players.  While more than half our entrants had Lady Gaga going all the way, our two finalists saw past Gaga's schtick to the true Fugs.  Robyn Torkewitz took the lead after Round 2 and held it all the way into the final despite losing her ultimate champion, Leighton Meester early on.  However, as she did in the March Madness tournament, Cat started slow but steadily climbed the leaderboard.  In the end, Robyn's lead wasn't quite large enough and with Amber Rose's victory, Cat squeezed into first place to take home our Fug Madness pot as well!

Fug Madness - Final Four Results and Voting Links for the Final Game!

It all comes down to this!  Rihanna will battle it out with Amber Rose to determine the ultimate Fug Madness Champion 2010!

With Amber Rose taking down the heavily favored Lady Gaga in her Final Four game and with Rihanna squeaking past Bai Ling in their match up, we are left with just two scenarios for how our league could play out:

1)  If Amber Rose wins the whole thing, Catherine Prince would win with her second bracket.

2)  If Rihanna wins over Amber Rose, Robyn Torkewitz would win.

Fug Madness Final Four Voting Links!

Fug Madness - Elite Eight Results!

The Fug Madness Final Four is now set!  Lady Gaga, Amber Rose, Bai Ling and Rihanna will duke it out in the final two rounds to determine the ultimate Fug Madness Champion!

The standings for our league are getting interesting, with my Mom, Karen Sager, pulling into a tie with our leader thus far, Robyn Torkewitz.  Mom was the only person to correctly predict the entire Fug Madness Final Four and she's going into the final two rounds with a lot of momentum.  Based on my calculations, these are the remaining scenarios for how things could possibly play out going forward:

1)  If Amber Rose wins the whole thing, Catherine Prince would win with her second bracket.

2)  If Lady Gaga wins over Bai Ling, Mom would win.  If Lady Gaga wins over Rihanna, Colin Fink would win (and he would also probably make Robyn's life really miserable for a few days).

3)  If Rihanna wins over Amber Rose, Robyn would win (and she would hopefully make Colin's life pretty miserable as well).  If Bai Ling wins over Amber Rose, Robyn and Mom would tie for the win.

4)  If Rihanna wins over Lady Gaga, Colin would win by a scant 20 points over Mom.  If Bai Ling wins over Lady Gaga, Mom would win.

As a side note, I wanted to mention that both Catherine and Mom have a decent shot at winning the Relentless Optimism March Madness pool as well, with Mom currently leading both pools going into the Final Four.  Great work ladies and congratulations on your success thus far!

Fug Madness Voting Links - Sweet Sixteen Results!

The Sweet Sixteen Round of Fug Madness is now complete!

This past round saw the elimination of strong contenders Taylor Momsen, Madonna, Juliette Lewis and and reigning Fug Madness champion Aubrey O'Day.  Unfortunately, the young fug upstart Miley Cyrus was eliminated at the hands of Lady Gaga, despite my best attempts to rally the voters on her behalf.  While a particularly strong showing in the Sweet Sixteen by Robyn Torkewitz has her firmly in the lead, Robyn has significantly less points remaining then most of the rest of the field.  Will the Elite Eight finally be the round that brings her down?  Or will Mischa Barton wreak havoc on the brackets of you Lady Gaga fans?  Stay tuned!

Fug Madness Round 2 Results!

Fug Madness Round 2 is complete and our league standings are ALL OVER THE PLACE.  Madness has truly reigned and its taken down a lot of brackets in it's wake!

A number of heavy favorites going into the Fug Madness tournament went down in Round 2, including Lindsay Lohan, Chloe Sevigny, Leighton Meester, Pamela Anderson, Katy Perry and Lily Allen.  As a result, the only person left with an intact Final Four in our league is Karen Sager (my mom!).  Only five of our ten competitors still have their complete Final Two and both Robyn Torkewitz and I (the current Top 2) have both lost our overall grand champion.  Beware, all of you rooting for Lady Gaga to go all the way: Robyn and I are planning to bring her down and SOON.

Fug Madness Results Update!

Welcome to the Relentless Optimism Fug Madness League!

First and foremost, thank you so much for supporting our team for the Breast Cancer 3 Day by joining our league.  Altogether, we have ten entries for our Fug Madness pool meaning we have raised an additional $50 for our team.  We may not have the numbers of the March Madness tournament, but this one is so much more fun!  We will be posting regular updates for the contest here on team fundraising blog, so please check back often to see how your bracket is doing.

Voting in the first round of contests started yesterday on www.gofugyourself.com.  Each voting period lasts for 24 hours, meaning that we have our first official results today.  Interestingly, much like the first day of the March Madness tournament, there were a slew of upsets in Fug Madness as well!  All told, in seven out of the first 16 match ups, the often under dressed under dog came out ahead.  A summary of the results of Round 1, Day 1 and a preview of the next round of match ups can be found by clicking here.  The full results for each bracket can be found here:

The standings in our pool are fairly close, with a number of people correctly predicting a good number of the upsets.  There are 320 points up for grab in each round, with the scoring breaking down like this:

Round of 32 = 10 points each

Sweet 16 = 20 points each

Elite 8 = 40 points each

Final 4 = 80 points each

Final 2 = 160 points each

Ultimate winner = 320 points

Our Fug Madness tournament fundraiser is also now live!

You've heard all about the March Madness basketball tournament, now it's time for Fug Madness!  If you've already entered our March Madness pool and are looking for more action or if you simply prefer fashion to foul shots, this is the contest for you!  Fug Madness is run by the hilarious ladies at www.gofugyourself.com.  For those that don't know, Go Fug Yourself is a very funny blog written by two girls expressing their feelings on all of the wacky things that celebrities wear out in public.  Fug Madness is their annual contest to determine who was the worst dressed celebrity of the previous year.  The "Fug Girls", as the authors are called, will be releasing their ranked list of the top 64 worst dressed celebrities, also broken down into four brackets.  Then, as with March Madness, each celebrity faces off head to head with their opponent, with the readers of Go Fug Yourself voting to determine the winner.  Celebs are eliminated one at a time until only one person is left standing.  To read more about how Fug Madness works, please visit the FAQ page.

To enter our contest, you will need to download a copy of the Fug Madness bracket and fill it in on your own, selecting which person you think will come out on top in each head to head match up.  A downloadable, fill in - able PDF version of the bracket can be found by clicking on the link below.  When you're done, email your completed brackets (with your name and email address) back to me at kscincotta@gmail.com and I will compile them.

Scoring will be done exactly like in March Madness, with correct predictions in later rounds being worth more points than earlier round picks.  The first match ups kick off on Thursday, March 18th at which point we will no longer be accepting entries.  Please note that just like in March Madness ,there is also a play in "game" for Fug Madness that will not be scored in our league.  Results will be updated here on the team fundraising blog throughout the tournament.  The person in our league with the most points following the championship game on April 5th will be declared the winner.  The winner will be notified on April 6th and the results of our tournament will be posted here shortly thereafter. 

Please note that this contest is a fundraiser for our team for the Susan G. Komen 3 Day for the Cure.  For each entry that you submit (and you can submit as many as you want), we are requesting a $10 donation to our 3 Day team.  Donations can be made using the Paypal "Donate" button at the top right hand side of this blog.  The link to the Fug Madness bracket will take you away from this site, so please bookmark it so that you remember to make your donations.

The winner of this contest will receive a cash prize equal to half the money collected for this contest.  If a member of Relentless Optimism wins, all of the money from that contest will be donated to our team for the 3 Day.  If there is a tie, then a name will be selected from a hat to determine the recipient of the cash prize.

Finally, word of mouth is the most effective tool we have to generate entries for these contests.  The more entries we get, the larger the cash prize for the winner and more importantly, the more money we can raise for a really great cause.  Even if you don't enter yourself, please pass on this information to anyone that you think might be interested.

 

Our Final Two Fundraising Contests

Our team for the Susan G. Komen 3 Day for the Cure will be running two more fundraising contests that both start this weekend:  March Madness and it's fashionable cousin Fug Madness, courtesy of www.gofugyourself.com.  Because the window for submitting entries for both contests is going to be relatively short, I wanted to post now about the details for each contest.

March Madness

This is the big one!  In the grand tradition of March Madness pools everywhere, we will be asking everyone to predict who will win the 2010 NCAA Men's Basketball National Championship tournament.  For those that don't know, the NCAA March Madness tournament features the top 64 men's college basketball teams.  The teams are divided into four brackets and the tournament is single elimination until only one team is remaining and is crowned National Champion.  

For our March Madness pool, we will be using the brackets and tournament set up at www.ESPN.com.  The name for our league on ESPN is "Relentless Optimism" and the password to join our league is "Optimism".  In order to enter, you will be asked to sign up for a free ESPN.com account if you don't already have one.  From there, you will be asked to pick a winner for each game in the tournament.  Don't worry if you don't know anything about college basketball, you can just guess.  Who knows, you may pick a long shot that goes all the way!  Each correct pick will win you points, with the later rounds of the tournament being worth more points than the earlier rounds.  The person with the highest total points in our league will win our cash prize.  Please note that there is a play in game on Tuesday, March 16th (I think) that we will not be scoring in our contest.

The brackets for March Madness will be released to the public on Sunday, March 14th.  As soon as they are up, our league will be open for you to submit your bracket.  The tournament starts in the afternoon on Thursday, March 18th.  Our league will officially be closed to new entries when the first game starts, so be sure to get your brackets in early.  Mark your calendars now!

For this contest, we will be publishing a downloadable copy of their brackets here on our team blog.  If you would like to enter our Fug Madness contest, you will need to download a copy of the bracket and fill it in on your own.  You can then email them back to me at kscincotta@gmail.com and I will compile them.  Scoring will be done exactly like in March Madness, with correct predictions in later rounds being worth more points than earlier round picks.  Brackets for Fug Madness will be released on Friday, March 12th Monday, March 15th (officially!) and the first match up should take place on Thursday, March 18th.  As soon as I know the schedule, I will post the official cut off date for Fug Madness entries.  Much like in March Madness there is also a play in "game" for Fug Madness that will not be scored in our league.  Even with bypassing the play in game, there won't be much time for entries, so again, mark your calendars now!

Komen 3 Day for the Cure.  For each entry that you submit to either contest, we are requesting a $10 donation to our 3 Day team.  Donations can be made using the Paypal "Donate" button at the top right hand side of this blog.  Entering March Madness will take you away from this site, so please bookmark it so that you remember to make your donations.

The winner of each contest will receive a cash prize equal to half the money collected for that specific contest.  If a member of Relentless Optimism wins either contest, all of the money from that contest will be donated to our team for the 3 Day.  If there is a tie in either contest, a name will be chosen from a hat to determine the recipient of the cash prize for that contest.

Finally, word of mouth is the most effective tool we have to generate entries for these contests.  The more entries we get, the larger the cash prize for the winner and more importantly, the more money we can raise for a really great cause.  Even if you don't enter yourself, please pass on this information to anyone that you think might be interested.
